SP8.8 Necrotising fasciitis: A retrospective single-centre 10-year experience

Abstract Aims Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a life-threatening condition with early diagnosis and goal-directed resuscitation critical to improve perioperative outcomes. The aim of this study review our experience define trends in the incidence, presentation, morbidity, mortality management NF cases. Method Case notes from 1st October 2012 30 September 2022 were retrieved. Data was collected regard patient demographic, risk factors, initial laboratory findings, surgical approach, length stay intensive care unit (ICU), additional operation requirements 30-day mortality. Results Medical records 59 patients reviewed. 58% male age ranged 24 84 years old average presentation 53. 91% cases had one or more factors identified 36% being diabetic, 54% obese. At 51% tachycardic, 46% fever 32% hypotensive CRP 313 WCC 20. Computerized tomography (CT) completed prior debridement 39% which 74% CT scans showed subcutaneous gas. polymicrobial. 80% required ICU support postoperatively 9.8 days. 24% defunctioning stomas cases, VAC dressings applied. 10%. Conclusion Necrotising carries significant morbidity risk. Systemic upset not always present at clinical suspicion should be increased high presence known factors.
